30 days of riding
“What better place than here, what better time than now.”
The Rage Against the Machine lyrics bounced around my head as I dragged my stinking carcass from the duvet and pondered the half-light outside. The rain audible against the windows. The snooze option on my alarm well and truly used to the limit this morning.
Why pick a nice day to start riding to work again?
Given my standard over reaction to people with “new years resolution”… I realised I was being a bit of a hypocrite.
It doesn’t have to start on a Monday.
It doesn’t have to start on the first of the month.
The challenge is still the challenge.
Two things heavy on my mind – the loss of a colleague and friend a year ago (and what the hell have I spent that year he didn’t get doing that was positive)… and the slow decline of my riding mojo. I need to self medicate… and this is the prescription.
Kit on. Lights on. Garmin On. Rain. Wind. Traffic. Leaves. Commute.
… and here I am, and better for it.
SO – I take my stand, and pledge, 30 days of riding from today.

Let the games begin.
*and let the pondering as to why I find it easier to motivate myself to get out in weather like this than when it is “nice”?
