Old Outlook and cPanel over SSL

As I peer between my fingers at the world that is going on outside of my skull I am slowly taking the “shhh, just do it – do it – no one will know – shhh – it will be fine”

The user has issues connecting to a currently patched cPanel box using Automatic or TLS setting for encryption. Using the TLS connection – as you would – I see the following from their IP…

[root@cpanelbox ~]# tail -f /var/log/exim_mainlog |grep 123.123.123.123

2017-11-14 10:37:27 TLS error on connection from [123.123.123.123]:51428 (SSL_accept): error:00000000:lib(0):func(0):reason(0)

2017-11-14 10:37:29 SMTP connection from [123.123.123.123]:51430 (TCP/IP connection count = 3)

The solution is to just hide behind your fingers, and suggest they use SSL set verbosely in their config.

Sure the rest of the web is saying do not use SSL, and as for TLS – TLSv1.2 – or TLSv1.1 as long as you are not needing to be PCI compliant – but hey Microsoft – don’t you worry – you keep on with your SSL – I am sure they won’t pick on you… it can be our little secret.

O_O

Advises user to use SSL; Looks theĀ other way; Thinks happy thoughts.
